It sounds like science fiction, but this story is completely real. Lexus once built a luxury sedan that could heal its own scratches.

The model, called the Lexus LS 600hL, introduced something known as the Self Restoring Coat. This was a special clear coating made of elastic polymers that could reform its surface when damaged. If you left the car in sunlight, light scratches or swirl marks would slowly disappear as the paint used heat to rebuild its molecular structure.

It was like watching your car repair itself right before your eyes.

Nissan later followed with a similar technology called the Scratch Shield paint that used nanotechnology to create the same effect. Many electric vehicle companies are now experimenting with shape memory materials that can push out small dents automatically.

We are entering a future where cars will not only drive themselves but also fix themselves. The line between machine and living being is becoming beautifully thin.
